I first heard the music of the American Indian (Native American) flute over twenty years ago. In 2003 I began playing - and since then, it has been an extremely important part of my life.

I truly love this instrument in all of its various incarnations - from the rounded and full tones of the Woodlands style - to the precise and evocative cry of the cedar Plains flute.

I came to the flute with significant breathing problems as the result of repeated bouts with cancer over the last decade (lung damage caused by radiation and large amounts of chemo resulted). During my first 2 years of playing I also had to take some time away from the flutes for heart surgery. Until very recently, it was difficult for me to play an entire piece without taking breaks (and gasping;-). In late 2006 I overcame these issues, and can now play comfortably for long periods of time. This improvement, a result of playing and practicing for several hours a day, allowed me to complete my first recording - Belonging to the Sun and the Moon, in May of 2007. I am extremely grateful to be able to play and record these wonderful instruments.

In 2005, we set up a recording booth in our home, and I dedicated myself full-time to playing, composing, and recording. The composing phase of a new project is currently under way - it will have a unique theme, and will be quite different from Belonging to the Sun and the Moon. I have recently begun performing, and I am constantly improving my playing skills and repertoire. I am a member of the International Native American Flute Association (INAFA). Please note, I am not of Native American descent.

My wife Tsofia and I live in the Pacific Northwest. My/our other pursuits and interests include the study of American Indian arts, cultures and languages, cycling, bird-watching, entomology, and paleontology. I also create original digital art, and reconstruct extinct creatures (trilobites, dinosaurs, etc.) digitally.
