The iconic sound of R. Carlos Nakai's Earth Spirit flowed from the car's stereo speakers as we slowly descended the conifer and granite covered flank of Mount Rainier, in Washington State. It was the summer of 2003, and it was at that moment I decided to begin my journey with the American Indian (Native American) style flute.

Since that time, the flutes and I have been inseparable. Several euphoric hours every day are devoted to playing, practicing, and composing. In 2006, I largely overcame my breathing problems (see 'Bio' section of this site for more info) and was able to complete my first recording, Belonging to the Sun and the Moon. It is my goal to constantly improve my playing and compositional skills, and to continue producing high quality, heartfelt, and original recordings.

I am honored and privileged to play flutes by such fine makers as: Greg Jones, Jeff Calavan, Ken Light, Geoffrey Ellis, Matt Stewart, Paul Thompson, Billy Spear, Michael Graham Allen, Bryan Akipa, Billy Crowbeak , Mac Lopez, Scott Loomis, Keith Bear, Michael Gulino, Marvin Yazzie, Odell Borg, Dusty Moore, Paul Jones, and others. I owe these talented artisans a debt of gratitude for making all of this possible...

While I enjoy and admire the innovative and skillful blending of this indigenous flute with Western and various other World instruments - it is always the solo recordings and performances that touch me in the most profound way. I have chosen primarily the path of the solo flute player for myself - my compositions attempt to reveal the spiritual' inner poetry' that resides in all of us, and in the beauty and drama of the natural world. I strive to honor the intent of those who originally brought this flute into being.

In addition to my own compositions, I love to listen to, and to play the traditional songs of the American Indian people - and I do so with the utmost respect for these rich and varied cultures. I have been deeply influenced by such Native players as Keith Bear, Kevin Locke, Tom Mauchahty-Ware, Paul Thompson, Bryan Akipa, Charles Littleleaf, and R. Carlos Nakai. Non-native influences have come from recording artists and performers such as Gary Stroutsos and Michael Graham Allen..

My recordings are released on the Painted Cloud label, which I started in 2007, and recording is done in my home studio.
