prairies, mountains, and thriving Indian communities across this
great land. Talented Native players have carried forward the traditions
of their ancestors, while simultaneously elevating this unique
indigenous flute to its rightful place among the World’s
most respected musical instruments.
Though
not of American Indian descent myself, I have been deeply touched
by the incredibly varied and beautiful languages, cultures, sacred
lands and musical traditions of this continent’s first peoples.
These original compositions blend Native influences with my own
life experiences and traditions. I hope you find them peaceful
and at the same time, emotionally powerful.
This recording contains only cedar and river cane flutes - without
percussion, vocals, or any other added sounds. I believe this
instrument speaks most clearly and powerfully in this way, its
voice transcending cultural and temporal barriers - reminding
us that we all belong to the Sun and the Moon."
